Acne Studios
Acne Studios is a Swedish fashion house founded in 1996 by Jonny Johansson, initially as an acronym for "Associated Computer Nerd Enterprises," which later changed to "Ambition to Create Novel Expressions." The studio was established under a creative umbrella, encompassing various disciplines such as interior design, art, magazine, fashion, books, and technology.
The brand's origins can be traced back to Johansson's fascination with Swedish modernism, which emphasizes minimalism and clean lines. Johansson drew inspiration from the Warhol Factory, the renowned creative hub in Andy Warhol's New York studio. The original vision for Acne Studios was to create a multi-story house, with each floor dedicated to a different aspect of the brand, including digital, advertising, art department, paper, and fashion.
Acne Studios' first product line was a collection of 100 pairs of jeans, which became an instant success. Despite lacking formal design training, Johansson persisted with his designs, and the brand's popularity grew when Wallpaper magazine featured Acne Studios as a new and upcoming brand.
In 2010, Acne Studios presented its first runway show, showcasing a minimalist collection with each look in a single color. Johansson's modernist influences were evident in the H line silhouettes, a design conceived in the modernist era by Dior, as well as V line and spindle silhouettes. The following year, Johansson took a more experimental approach, introducing new shapes and silhouettes, further expanding Acne Studios' design language.
Acne Studios has since evolved into a global fashion brand, renowned for its innovative designs and minimalist aesthetic. The brand's website, , serves as a digital platform for showcasing its collections, offering a seamless shopping experience, and providing customer service.
