Alexander McQueen

Alexander McQueen is a British luxury fashion house founded by designer Lee Alexander McQueen in 1992. McQueen, born in 1969, was recognized for his bold vision and dramatic designs, and he quickly became a prominent figure in the fashion world. Before establishing his own label, McQueen honed his skills as an apprentice at Savile Row, where he developed his signature tailoring techniques. He furthered his education at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, where his 1992 graduation collection was famously bought in its entirety by influential fashion stylist Isabella Blow.

The brand gained notoriety for its provocative runway shows, which combined McQueen's theatrical designs with innovative presentation. McQueen’s collections often drew on his deep appreciation for history and nature, transforming traditional themes with modern, sometimes controversial, elements. One of the brand's most memorable collections, Highland Rape (1995), featured torn lace and tartan, challenging the audience's perceptions and garnering both critical acclaim and controversy.

In 1996, McQueen succeeded John Galliano as the chief designer at Givenchy, augmenting his recognition in haute couture. Despite encountering initial creative clashes, McQueen left an indelible mark on the French fashion house with his unmistakable style. During his tenure, he continued to work on his own brand, earning British Designer of the Year four times between 1996 and 2003.

In 2000, the Gucci Group acquired a controlling stake in Alexander McQueen, facilitating the brand's global expansion. This partnership enabled the launch of additional product lines, including menswear, accessories, and the diffusion line, McQ.
