Galerie Lelong & Co.
Galerie Lelong & Co. is a distinguished contemporary art gallery with a rich history and a global presence. The gallery was founded in Paris in 1981 by Daniel Lelong, Jacques Dupin, and Jean Frémon, and expanded to New York in 1985. Over the years, Galerie Lelong & Co. has built a reputation for championing a diverse roster of contemporary artists and estates from the United States, Latin America, Europe, Asia, and Australia.
The gallery's commitment to presenting a balanced roster of male and female artists, as well as artists from the Global South, has been a hallmark of its programming since 1991. Under the leadership of Mary Sabbatino, Vice President and Partner, Galerie Lelong & Co., New York has pioneered the community in promoting political acuity and presenting museum-quality exhibitions that include contemporary sculpture and installations.
Galerie Lelong & Co. has a long-standing tradition of working closely with artists to help develop large-scale public art commissions beyond the gallery's walls. The gallery's dedication to social justice and good citizenship is also demonstrated through its charitable initiatives and collaborations.
The gallery's New York location, which opened in 1985 and moved to its present ground-floor location in Chelsea in 2001, is a member of the Art Dealers' Association of America, the most esteemed organization of art galleries in the United States.
Throughout its history, Galerie Lelong & Co. has represented and worked with prominent contemporary artists and estates, including Ana Mendieta, Nancy Spero, Etel Adnan, and Antoni Tàpies, among others. The gallery's programming has included numerous solo and group shows, as well as installations and exhibitions that examine the human condition and collective consciousness.
