Galleria Continua
Galleria Continua is an international contemporary art gallery that was established in San Gimignano, Italy, in 1990 by three friends: Mario Cristiani, Lorenzo Fiaschi, and Maurizio Rigillo. The gallery's inception was a result of their desire to create a space that fosters experimentation, inclusivity, and accessibility, while challenging the traditional white cube format. The founders' vision was to establish a gallery that transcends geographical boundaries and creates a dialogue between diverse cultures, histories, and artistic practices.
Galleria Continua's history is deeply rooted in its commitment to presenting contemporary art in unexpected locations, with its first gallery situated in a former cinema in San Gimignano, a town known for its medieval architecture and rich history. This choice of location was instrumental in shaping the gallery's identity, as it provided a unique platform for engaging with both local and global audiences, and for fostering a symbiotic relationship between rural and industrial landscapes. Over the years, the gallery has expanded its presence to various parts of the world, including Beijing, Les Moulins, Havana, Rome, São Paulo, Paris, and Dubai, further emphasizing its dedication to promoting cultural exchange and dialogue.
One of the gallery's significant milestones was the inauguration of Les Moulins, a former factory in the Parisian countryside, in 2007. This site serves as a unique platform for showcasing monumental artworks by artists from around the world, attracting thousands of visitors each year and fostering a new cultural wave in the region. The gallery's commitment to accessibility and inclusivity is further reflected in its Paris location, which features a bar, gelateria, wine cellar, and delicatessen, offering visitors a space to relax and enjoy treats from regions where the gallery is present.
