Gladstone Gallery

Gladstone Gallery, an international art gallery founded by Barbara Gladstone in New York City in 1980, has established itself as a significant force in the contemporary art world. With branches in Los Angeles, California, Brussels, Belgium, and Seoul, South Korea, the gallery operates out of New York City, featuring a primary exhibition space on 24th Street in Manhattan and two other locations in Manhattan. The 24th Street space, known for its hangar-like dimensions, was designed by Selldorf Architects.

In the 1980s, Gladstone Gallery represented artist and activist Keith Haring, marking a significant milestone in its history. In 1991, the gallery launched Matthew Barney's solo debut in New York City, further solidifying its reputation. Initially operating in Soho and on 57th Street, the gallery relocated to Chelsea in 1996, partnering with Metro Pictures and Matthew Marks Gallery to acquire a spacious 29,000 square foot warehouse on West 24th Street.

Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, Gladstone Gallery gained visibility representing artists Shirin Neshat and Anish Kappor. In 2020, Gavin Brown left his gallery to partner with Gladstone Gallery, further expanding its roster of contemporary artists. Today, the gallery represents artists such as Ed Atkins, Matthew Barney, Thomas Bayrle, Kerstin Brätsch, Carroll Dunham, Ian Cheng, LaToya Ruby Frazier, Cyprien Gaillard, Arthur Jafa, Joan Jonas, Anish Kapoor, Alex Katz, Mark Leckey, Sarah Lucas, Victor Man, Jean-Luc Mylayne, Jill Mulleady, Shirin Neshat, Ugo Rondinone, Elizabeth Peyton, Rebecca Quaytman, Rachel Rose, David Salle, Amy Sillman, Frances Stark, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Rosemarie Trockel, Andro Wekua, Michael Williams, and Anicka Yi.

In addition to living artists, Gladstone Gallery handles the estates of Robert Bechtle, Keith Haring, Huang Yong Ping, Jannis Kounellis, Robert Mapplethorpe, Marisa Merz, Elizabeth Murray, Robert Rauschenberg, Jack Smith, Carrie Mae Weems, and Lawrence Weiner. The gallery has previously represented artists such as Ahmed Alsoudani, Catherine Opie, Lari Pittman, and Richard Prince.
