Jean Paul Gaultier, born April 24, 1952, is a French haute couture and prêt-à-porter fashion designer known for his unconventional designs and bold style. Gaultier's early fascination with fashion was evident when he sent sketches to renowned designer Pierre Cardin, who subsequently hired him as an assistant in 1970.

Gaultier launched his own label in 1976, and by the early 1980s, he had established a reputation for shaking up the fashion industry with his avant-garde designs. Notably, his 1983 collection introduced male skirts, challenging gender norms and breaking traditional sexual conventions. Gaultier's creations often infused elements from streetwear, punk, and popular culture, making his designs accessible and relatable while maintaining an edge of sophistication.

One of the designer's most iconic contributions to fashion history is the "cone bra" corset worn by Madonna during her 1990 Blonde Ambition Tour. This piece became synonymous with Gaultier’s daring and theatrical aesthetic. His works frequently incorporated motifs from sailor attire, fetish wear, and regional dress, embodying a blend of the fantastic and the everyday.
