Wooyoungmi
Wooyoungmi is a South Korean luxury menswear brand founded by designer Youngmi Woo in 2002. Youngmi Woo, born in 1959, showcased her propensity for fashion design from a young age, securing her first significant recognition after winning the prestigious "Golden Needle Award" while studying at Sungkyunkwan University. Following her graduation, Woo's early career saw her working with renowned fashion houses in South Korea, which laid the foundation for her future endeavors in the fashion industry.
The brand Wooyoungmi was officially launched in Seoul and quickly garnered attention for its sophisticated and contemporary aesthetics, focusing on innovative designs and high-quality materials. In 2002, the brand made its debut on the Paris Men’s Fashion Week calendar, accentuating its global ambitions. This milestone signified Wooyoungmi’s commitment to establishing a significant presence on the international fashion scene.
A defining moment for Wooyoungmi came in 2011 when Woo's daughter, Katie Chung, joined the brand. Chung, who had honed her skills at Central Saint Martins in London, brought a fresh perspective and innovative approach to the design process. Their collaboration brought a noticeable evolution in the brand's style, merging traditional elegance with modern sensibilities.
Throughout its history, Wooyoungmi has developed a reputation for its minimalist yet avant-garde designs, appealing to a contemporary male audience with a penchant for detail and craftsmanship. The label's collections often feature clean lines, impeccable tailoring, and subtle yet thought-provoking details, positioning it as a strong player in the global luxury menswear market.
By 2014, Wooyoungmi expanded its presence by opening flagship stores in Paris and Seoul, further solidifying its international status.
