Angelus
Angelus is a revered Swiss watchmaking brand with a rich history that dates back to 1891, when it was founded by the Stolz brothers in the town of Le Locle, Switzerland. Renowned for its mechanical ingenuity and craftsmanship, Angelus quickly gained a reputation for creating sophisticated timepieces, including some of the earliest wrist-worn chronographs.
One of the brand's pivotal innovations occurred in 1925 with the creation of the Angelus Chronodato, the first chronograph wristwatch to feature a full calendar, indicating day, date, and month. This innovative approach was a significant milestone in horology, setting a new standard for functionality in wristwatches. During the mid-20th century, Angelus expanded its portfolio with advanced technical designs such as the DTU, a highly precise military timepiece crafted for American soldiers during the Vietnam War.
In 1942, Angelus introduced the Chrono-Datoluxe, the first wristwatch to combine a chronograph with a large date and calendar display. This breakthrough solidified the brand's standing among horological experts. The 1950s and 60s were marked by the success of the Angelus 215 movement, a mechanical marvel known for its use in the critically acclaimed Panerai Luminor watches. Angelus' mechanical prowess continued to inspire and influence the world of high-end watchmaking.
