Armin Strom
Armin Strom is a distinguished watchmaking brand founded in 1967 by Swiss watchmaker Armin Strom, a master of the skeletonization technique. The brand quickly garnered a reputation for its intricate craftsmanship and attention to detail. Armin Strom began his career by studying watchmaking in Burgdorf, Switzerland, and subsequently opened his first workshop in Burgdorf, which became the birthplace of his unique approach to horology.
In the early 1980s, Strom’s passion for skeletonized movements led him to produce his first hand-skeletonized pocket watch, which captured the fascination of collectors and enthusiasts. By carefully stripping away non-essential material from the movement while maintaining its structural integrity, Strom created pieces that allowed an unprecedented view into the mechanics of timekeeping. His work in this domain made him an influential figure in the revitalization of the skeleton watch genre.
During the 1990s, Armin Strom expanded its offerings to include both pocket watches and wristwatches, all characterized by the meticulous skeletonization process. The brand’s commitment to transparency extended to both the aesthetic and philosophical realms, emphasizing the seamless blend of art and engineering.
In 2006, the company underwent a significant transformation when Serge Michel and Claude Greisler joined, propelling Armin Strom into the manufacture status. This pivotal shift enabled the brand to produce its own in-house movements, marking a new era of innovation and quality control.
A major milestone was achieved in 2009 with the launch of the Armin Strom caliber ARM09, the first entirely in-house movement. Subsequent development led to a series of advanced complications, such as the Mirrored Force Resonance unveiled in 2016. This timepiece showcased a patented dual oscillator system that significantly enhanced accuracy.
