Chopard
Chopard, a Swiss luxury watch and jewelry company, was founded in 1860 by Louis-Ulysse Chopard in the small village of Sonvilier. Known initially for high-precision pocket watches and chronometers, L.U.C. Chopard established himself with a reputation for impeccable Swiss craftsmanship. By the late 19th century, Chopard’s timepieces had garnered international recognition, selling not only within Switzerland but also attracting customers from across Europe, Russia, and Scandinavia.
In 1963, Karl Scheufele III, a descendant of a German watchmaking family, purchased Chopard. This transformative moment shifted the company’s trajectory towards greater innovation and luxury. Under Scheufele's leadership, Chopard began developing and expanding their offerings, introducing fine jewelry and high-end watches, blending Swiss precision with artistic creativity. This diversified approach solidified Chopard's standing within the exclusive domain of haute horology and luxury accessories.
In 1976, Chopard introduced the “Happy Diamonds” collection, revolutionizing jewelry design by featuring free-moving diamonds encased within sapphire crystals. This innovative design earned the company the coveted Golden Rose of Baden-Baden award. During the 1980s and 90s, Chopard’s portfolio grew with collections like the "Mille Miglia", a tribute to the Italian classic car race, which blended automotive inspiration with watchmaking prowess.
Aligning luxury with sustainability, Chopard committed to ethical sourcing. In 2013, they launched "The Journey to Sustainable Luxury," championing responsibly mined gold and partnerships with Fairmined certified mines. Their dedication to sustainability was further highlighted by iconic moments on global stages like the Cannes Film Festival, where Chopard has crafted the Palme d'Or trophy since 1998.
