Corum
Corum, officially known as Montres Corum Sàrl, is a distinguished Swiss watchmaking company founded in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1955 by Gaston Ries and René Bannwart. It quickly established itself within the horology industry by embracing innovative designs and high-quality craftsmanship.
One of the company's most notable early achievements came in 1958 with the launch of the Golden Tube watch. This piece showcased Corum's willingness to depart from traditional watchmaking norms, offering a watch case crafted from a single tube of gold, contrasting sharply with conventional designs. In 1964, Corum introduced the Coin Watch, an iconic model that remains a symbol of the brand. This timepiece ingeniously embedded a high-precision movement within a genuine gold coin, often a $20 Double Eagle or a silver dollar, merging numismatics with horology.
Corum is also recognized for its legendary Admiral’s Cup collection, introduced in 1960, which became synonymous with the nautical world of sailing. This line featured distinctive twelve-sided bezels and colorful nautical flags on the dials, adding a maritime element to its luxurious design.
The Bubble collection, launched in 2000, marked another significant milestone. Known for its oversized sapphire crystal domes and whimsical, avant-garde designs, the Bubble watches became instant hits and are sought after by collectors and enthusiasts alike.
Corum continued its tradition of innovation and excellence by presenting limited edition pieces, such as the Golden Bridge, released in 1980. This unique timepiece showcased an in-line baguette movement, where gears are aligned in a linear fashion within a transparent case, celebrating both aesthetic beauty and mechanical ingenuity.
