Grönefeld
Grönefeld is a renowned Dutch watchmaking brand that traces its roots back to a family tradition established in 1912. Founded by Johan Grönefeld, a skilled watchmaker in the quaint town of Oldenzaal in the Netherlands, the company has always been synonymous with precision and craftsmanship. By the 1920s, Johan had gained a local reputation for repairing and maintaining sophisticated timepieces, setting a standard for meticulous workmanship.
The company’s heritage took a significant leap forward with Johan's son, Sjef Grönefeld, who expanded the brand's horizons in the mid-20th century. In 1944, Sjef introduced innovative techniques into the family business, which diversified the brand’s expertise to include both timepieces and tower clocks, showcasing their comprehensive horological knowledge.
By the turn of the 21st century, Tim and Bart Grönefeld, the third generation of the family, continued the legacy. They apprenticed under Swiss master watchmakers at prestigious firms such as Audemars Piguet and Renaud & Papi. Equipped with advanced skills and an intrinsic understanding of the art of watchmaking, the brothers returned to Oldenzaal in 2008 to revive the familial brand under the new mantle of Grönefeld.
Their first masterpiece, the GTM-06 Tourbillon Minute Repeater, was introduced in 2008 and immediately garnered international acclaim. This complex timepiece highlighted the brand’s commitment to traditional horology combined with modern innovation. In 2010, Grönefeld released the One Hertz, the world’s first series wristwatch featuring an independent deadbeat second complication, cementing their reputation in the industry.
