Konstantin Chaykin
Konstantin Chaykin is an eminent watchmaker and inventor, hailed from Russia, known for his innovative and distinctive timepieces. Born on March 25, 1975, in Leningrad (modern-day Saint Petersburg), Chaykin pursued his interest in horology from a young age, ultimately establishing a brand that has achieved international acclaim.
Chaykin's trajectory into the world of high horology began in earnest in the mid-2000s. He founded his workshop, Konstantin Chaykin Manufacture, in Moscow in 2003. The brand quickly garnered attention for its unique approach to watchmaking, blending traditional techniques with avant-garde designs. Chaykin's expertise spans across every aspect of watchmaking, from design and engineering to production and assembly.
One of Chaykin’s early achievements was the creation of the Lunokhod watch in 2011. This timepiece was notable for featuring a tridimensional moon-phase complication, an innovation that distinguished it from other lunar watches. The Lunokhod earned Chaykin the reputation of an innovator in horology and set a benchmark for what his brand would continue to achieve.
Perhaps the most internationally recognized creation from Chaykin’s workshop is the Joker watch, introduced in 2017. This playful watch displays the time with a face resembling a comic character, where the eyes indicate hours and minutes, and the mouth features a moon phase. The Joker watch drew significant attention at Baselworld 2017, cementing Chaykin’s status on the global stage.
Chaykin's contributions to horology have been acknowledged with multiple awards. He became a member of the prestigious Académie Horlogère des Créateurs Indépendants (AHCI) in 2010, a testament to his standing in the industry. Moreover, his watches have frequently been nominated and have won various accolades, including at the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG).
