Jets | Gulfstream Aerospace, Manufacturer, American Heritage

Gulfstream Aerospace, a major player in the aviation industry, has a rich history dating back to the 1950s. The company initially started as a division of Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation, known for producing military aircraft. In 1958, the decision to enter the civilian market marked a significant shift with the development of the Gulfstream I, the first business jet designed specifically for corporate use. This aircraft, powered by twin Rolls-Royce Dart engines, revolutionized business travel with its unprecedented speed and range.

In 1966, Gulfstream introduced the Gulfstream II, its first jet-powered aircraft, further establishing the brand in the realm of high-speed business jets. This model was celebrated for its advanced avionics and enhanced performance capabilities. By 1978, due to the division's success, Grumman sold Gulfstream to American Jet Industries, led by Allen Paulson. Under Paulson's leadership, the company flourished, introducing the Gulfstream III in 1979, which set a new standard in the aviation industry with its long-range capabilities and sophisticated avionics suite.

The 1980s and 1990s saw further advancements with the Gulfstream IV and its subsequent iteration, the Gulfstream V. The Gulfstream V was a watershed moment, becoming the first ultra-long-range business jet capable of non-stop flights between continental locations such as New York and Tokyo. This aircraft's introduction in 1995 solidified Gulfstream's position in the ultra-competitive market.

General Dynamics acquired Gulfstream in 1999, leading to further expansion and technological innovation. In 2008, the company introduced the G650, which boasted the longest range, highest speed, and most advanced technology at its time of launch. Gulfstream continued to push the boundaries of what was possible in business aviation, introducing models like the G500 and G600, which featured new engines and the Symmetry Flight Deck.
