Jet Aviation, a business aviation services company, was founded in 1967 by Carl Hirschmann in Basel, Switzerland. Initially started as a small aircraft maintenance operation, the company rapidly expanded its portfolio to include aircraft management and flight support services. This early diversification set the stage for its development into a global leader in the aviation industry.

In 1969, Jet Aviation opened its first Fixed Base Operation (FBO) in Geneva, followed by the establishment of another FBO in Zurich in 1975. The year 1977 marked the company's entry into the United States, with operations launching at the Teterboro Airport in New Jersey. By expanding into the U.S. market, Jet Aviation reinforced its status in the international aviation arena.

In the 1980s, under the leadership of Heinz Köhli, Jet Aviation continued to grow, adding a range of services including aircraft sales. The company set up shop in key global locations such as Singapore and Hong Kong, facilitating its reach in the Asian market. In 2005, it opened a state-of-the-art maintenance and refurbishment facility in Dubai, catering to the burgeoning Middle Eastern market.

Acquisitions have played a pivotal role in the company’s history. Notably, in 2008, Jet Aviation was acquired by General Dynamics, making it a part of one of the world’s largest defense and aerospace conglomerates. This acquisition not only enhanced its financial stability but also broadened its service offerings and customer base.

Throughout its history, Jet Aviation has been recognized for several innovative contributions to the aviation industry. Among these are pioneering advancements in aircraft interiors and the implementation of advanced maintenance techniques. In 2011, the company introduced its consolidated services under the brand name "Jet Aviation Flight Services," further streamlining its offerings.

Today, Jet Aviation operates over 50 locations worldwide, employs thousands of professionals, and serves a diverse roster of clients from high-net-worth individuals to large corporations and government agencies.
