Lufthansa Technik
Lufthansa Technik AG, founded in 1995, is renowned for its extensive expertise in aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services. The company's history is deeply intertwined with that of its parent firm, Deutsche Lufthansa AG, which traces its origins back to 1926.
Lufthansa Technik's roots can be linked to the maintenance division of Lufthansa, which formed in the aftermath of World War II when the airline resumed operations in 1955. Initial repair activities were centered at the Hamburg base, which continues to be a crucial hub for the company today. Post-war, the establishment of Lufthansa’s MRO services marked the start of a new era in German aviation maintenance.
A significant turning point was the creation of Lufthansa Technik as a separate entity in 1995, a strategic move that allowed it to expand its service offerings beyond Lufthansa’s fleet and cater to other airlines and aviation operators worldwide. This pivotal decision led to the company's growth into an internationally recognized leader in the MRO industry.
Lufthansa Technik introduced various innovations over the years, becoming a key player in the aviation sector. Its introduction of the Total Technical Support (TTS®) program, which provides comprehensive MRO services, was a game-changer, offering a one-stop solution tailored to client needs. This concept revolutionized how airlines approached aircraft maintenance.
With facilities spanning across Europe, Asia, and the Americas, Lufthansa Technik continually expanded its global footprint. In 2001, the establishment of Ameco Beijing, a joint venture with Air China, marked one of its significant international collaborations. Furthermore, in 2014, Lufthansa Technik Puerto Rico commenced operations, further solidifying its presence in the Western Hemisphere.
