Bjarke Ingels Group

Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) is a renowned architecture firm founded in 2005 by Danish architect Bjarke Ingels. Since its inception, BIG has emerged as a prominent figure in the global architectural scene, known for its versatile, sustainable, and innovative designs that challenge conventional paradigms. Based in Copenhagen and New York, the firm has developed a portfolio that encompasses an array of projects, ranging from residential buildings and offices to cultural institutions and urban developments.

One of the firm’s earliest breakthroughs came with the 8 House in Copenhagen, completed in 2010. The structure, a mixed-use residential building, is notable for its shape resembling a figure eight, incorporating elements of sustainable living with features such as green roofs and bicycle paths. This project established BIG’s reputation for integrating public and private spaces while promoting environmentally-friendly urban living.

In 2011, BIG unveiled its design for the VIA 57 West in New York City, a residential skyscraper known for its unique tetrahedron shape. Completed in 2016, this building redefined the New York skyline and introduced groundbreaking concepts in residential architecture, merging aspects of European courtyard gardens with high-density urban living.

BIG grabbed further attention in 2014 when it was selected to design the Amager Bakke Waste-to-Energy Plant in Copenhagen, which features the world’s first ski slope on a power plant. Completed in 2019, the project not only contributes to the city's green energy but also doubles as a recreational space, encapsulating BIG’s vision of multifunctional urban infrastructure.

Another landmark project is the Google Headquarters in Mountain View, California, developed in collaboration with Heatherwick Studio. Unveiled in 2017, this design incorporates energy-efficient and flexible architectural forms aimed at fostering a sustainable and creative work environment.
