NADAAA
NADAAA, an internationally acclaimed architectural design firm, emerged in the arena of avant-garde architecture in 2011. Founded by Nader Tehrani, Katherine Faulkner, and Daniel Gallagher, the firm's roots can be traced back to its predecessor, Office dA, which was co-founded by Tehrani and Monica Ponce de Leon in the late 1980s. The dissolution of Office dA in 2010 led to the establishment of NADAAA, allowing the founders to continue exploring innovative design concepts.
The firm quickly gained recognition for its commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration, sustainability, and experimental fabrication techniques. NADAAA's portfolio showcases a diverse range of projects, from academic institutions to cultural centers and urban design. One of its notable early projects is the Macallen Building in Boston, completed in 2007 under Office dA, which received numerous awards for its sustainable design and pioneering use of green roofs and rainwater management systems.
NADAAA's work has been extensively highlighted in architectural exhibitions and publications worldwide. The Melbourne School of Design at the University of Melbourne, completed in 2014, stands as a key project that underscores the firm’s integration of education and innovation. The building was celebrated for its adaptable learning environments and intricate facade, representing the firm’s dynamic approach towards blending technology with design.
In 2015, NADAAA earned the prestigious Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum's National Design Award in Architecture, signifying its influence in the design community. The firm has also contributed significantly to academic discourse, with Tehrani serving as the Dean of the Cooper Union's Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture from 2015 to 2019.
