RPBW Architects
Renzo Piano Building Workshop (RPBW Architects) is an internationally renowned architectural firm established by Italian architect Renzo Piano in 1981. With offices in Genoa, Paris, and New York, the firm employs a multidisciplinary team of over 150 architects, engineers, and specialists. RPBW’s work spans various sectors, including cultural institutions, commercial spaces, residential buildings, and public infrastructure, often characterized by a keen attention to detail, environmental sensitivity, and technological innovation.
Renzo Piano’s early collaboration with Richard Rogers in designing the Centre Pompidou in Paris propelled him to the global stage, and his independent practice has consistently produced projects that challenge conventional approaches. Many of RPBW’s projects exhibit a masterful use of light, transparency, and materials that blend with their environment while remaining authentically modern. This philosophy is reflected in some of the firm’s most famous works, such as The Shard in London, which redefined the city’s skyline, as well as the Jean-Marie Tjibaou Cultural Center in New Caledonia, where traditional materials were combined with innovative design to honor local culture.
RPBW’s body of work demonstrates a commitment to sustainability and socially responsible design, particularly in projects like the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco, which incorporates cutting-edge eco-friendly technologies. In addition, the firm focuses on creating spaces that facilitate community interaction and engagement, evident in projects like Le Centre Paul Klee in Switzerland and Whitney Museum of American Art in New York.
