Baltic Yachts
Baltic Yachts, established in 1973 in the coastal town of Pietarsaari, Finland, has carved out a significant legacy in the yachting industry. Founded by five partners with a wealth of experience in boatbuilding—Jens Corneliusson, Jan-Erik Ek, Jonas Edström, Kasper Wedell, and Bertil Pärnänen—the company quickly built a reputation for innovation, quality craftsmanship, and high-performance sailing yachts.
One of the company's most significant milestones was the introduction of advanced composite materials in yacht construction. In 1976, Baltic Yachts launched its first sailing yacht, the Baltic 46, designed by renowned naval architect C&C Design and an innovative achievement in lightweight, durable construction. This innovation propelled the brand into the spotlight, distinguishing them from more traditional shipbuilders reliant on heavier materials.
Throughout the 1980s, Baltic Yachts continued to push the boundaries of yacht design and engineering. The Baltic 39, introduced in 1978, became a standout model praised for its fine craftsmanship and superb sailing performance. The company's collaboration with prominent designers like Doug Peterson and Judel/Vrolijk & Co. further solidified its reputation for producing high-quality custom and semi-custom yachts.
The 1990s marked a period of technological advancements and groundbreaking designs for Baltic Yachts. The Baltic 87, launched in 1995, featured an unprecedented use of carbon fiber, significantly reducing weight and enhancing performance. This yacht, designed by Sparkman & Stephens, demonstrated the company's commitment to integrating the latest technologies and materials into their builds.
