Audemars Piguet
Audemars Piguet, a Swiss manufacturer of luxury mechanical watches, was founded in 1875 by childhood friends Jules Louis Audemars and Edward Auguste Piguet in the Vallée de Joux, a region known for its rich watchmaking history. The company's origin lies in the pair’s passion for horology; Jules Audemars specialized in creating complicated movements, while Edward Piguet focused on the regulation and final assembly of the timepieces.
Throughout its history, Audemars Piguet has been recognized for innovation and craftsmanship. In 1892, the company produced the world's first minute-repeating movement for a wristwatch, setting a new standard in horological complications. Another milestone occurred in 1921 when Audemars Piguet created the first jumping hour wristwatch, a novel design that displayed the time in a unique and stylish manner.
The introduction of the Royal Oak in 1972 marked a pivotal moment for the brand and the watch industry. Designed by Gérald Genta, the Royal Oak was the first luxury sports watch crafted in stainless steel. Its octagonal bezel, exposed screws, and integrated bracelet distinguished it from other luxury watches of the time, challenging conventional notions of high-end watch design and securing its status as an iconic timepiece.
