Founded in 1884 by Léon Breitling, the Swiss luxury watchmaker Breitling has been synonymous with precision engineering and a pioneering spirit. From its inception, the brand specialized in chronographs and precise timing instruments, distinguishing itself as an innovative force in the horological world.

In 1915, Breitling introduced one of the first wrist-worn chronographs, a significant advancement considering wristwatches were still a novelty at the time. This move anticipated the needs of early aviators who required precise and easily accessible timekeeping tools. The brand’s passion for aviation found a natural partner in 1936 when it became an official supplier to the Royal Air Force, equipping pilots with reliable instruments during a crucial period of global conflict.

The company’s Navitimer, released in 1952, further cemented Breitling's reputation. This model featured a circular slide rule, allowing pilots to perform important calculations related to airborne navigation. Over the decades, the Navitimer has become an iconic timepiece, celebrated for its blend of functionality and elegant design.

Breitling’s connection with aviation extended beyond military and commercial pilots. In the 1960s, the brand collaborated with Scott Carpenter, a NASA astronaut, to create the Breitling Cosmonaute. This was the first wristwatch to accompany an astronaut into space, featuring a 24-hour dial to distinguish day from night in the void of space.

The company also showed a flair for diversification and precision. In 1984, to mark its centennial, Breitling launched the Chronomat, a durable and robust watch that quickly found favor with enthusiasts and professionals alike. The Superocean, introduced in 1957, catered to the diving community, offering impressive water resistance and reliability.
