Hublot, the renowned Swiss luxury watchmaker, was founded in 1980 by Carlo Crocco. This brand quickly distinguished itself through its unique combination of precious metals and rubber, a concept that was revolutionary at the time. Hublot's initial success was attributed to its groundbreaking design; the "Hublot" watch incorporated a natural rubber strap, an unprecedented move in the luxury watch industry.
Crocco relocated to Switzerland in 1976, where he meticulously developed the designs for his new company. When Hublot debuted at the Basel Watch Fair in 1980, it immediately garnered attention, achieving a sales figure of $2 million in its first year. This innovative fusion of materials became a significant differentiator for Hublot, setting it apart in an already competitive market.
The 2004 appointment of Jean-Claude Biver, a notable figure in the watchmaking industry, as Hublot's CEO marked another transformative period. His leadership launched the "Big Bang" chronograph in 2005, which revitalized the brand's image and popularity. The Big Bang's design seamlessly melded traditional watchmaking techniques with avant-garde aesthetics, and the model collected numerous prestigious awards, including the 2005 "Best Design" prize at the Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix.
In 2008, Hublot was acquired by Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton (LVMH), the world's largest luxury group. Under LVMH's ownership, the brand's reputation further solidified, emphasizing quality and innovation. Hublot expanded its line to include several other successful models, such as the Classic Fusion and King Power collections.
Hublot is also widely recognized for its strategic partnerships and sponsorships, which include collaborations with Ferrari, FIFA World Cup, and UEFA Champions League.
