Jaeger Lecoultre
Jaeger-LeCoultre, a revered name in the world of horology, traces its origins back to 1833 in the Vallée de Joux, Switzerland. Founded by Antoine LeCoultre, the company quickly gained acclaim for its innovative approach to watchmaking. In 1844, LeCoultre invented the Millionometre, the first instrument capable of measuring microns, significantly advancing the precision of timepiece manufacture.
By 1903, Antoine's grandson, Jacques-David LeCoultre, had formed a partnership with Parisian watchmaker Edmond Jaeger. This collaboration resulted in the creation of ultra-thin movements, one of which, the calibre 145, remained the thinnest in the world for several decades. The merger of their skillsets led to the formal establishment of Jaeger-LeCoultre in 1937.
The brand is famed for its technical prowess and numerous landmarks in horology history. One such achievement is the 1929 introduction of the Calibre 101, the smallest mechanical movement ever constructed, containing 98 parts and weighing barely one gram. The movement was famously worn by Queen Elizabeth II at her coronation in 1953.
In 1931, Jaeger-LeCoultre unveiled the Reverso, a wristwatch with a case that could be flipped to protect its face. Originally designed for polo players, the Reverso has since become an icon of the brand, celebrated for its blend of functionality and elegance.
Throughout its existence, Jaeger-LeCoultre has maintained its status as a leader in complications, with over 1,200 calibres to its name. Noteworthy models include the Master Control series and the Rendez-Vous collection, exemplifying the brand's dedication to haute horlogerie.
The company's enduring legacy is inextricably linked to the Vallée de Joux, where it continues to innovate and uphold the highest standards of craftsmanship. Today, Jaeger-LeCoultre remains synonymous with ingenuity, precision, and timeless elegance in the realm of Swiss watchmaking.
