Château Lafleur
Château Lafleur, a renowned vineyard located in the Pomerol appellation on the right bank of Bordeaux, France, has carved an indelible niche in the world of fine wines. This prestigious estate boasts a legacy dating back to 1872 when it was established by Henri Greloud. Covering a modest 4.5 hectares, its relatively small size belies the tremendous influence and respect it commands among connoisseurs and collectors.
Originally part of the adjacent Château Le Gay, the vineyard was split into two separate properties. Greloud's vision for Château Lafleur was clear from the outset: to cultivate wines of exceptional caliber that could withstand the test of time. Following Greloud, subsequent generations of the family continued to uphold and enhance this vision, each contributing to the estate's growing prestige.
In 1920, Henri Greloud's granddaughter, Marie and her husband André Robin, took over the operations, further solidifying its reputation. The Robins were steadfast in their dedication, managing the vineyard with a meticulous approach until their passing in the mid-20th century. Their passing marked the end of an era, yet it also ushered in a new chapter as their nieces, Thérèse and Marie-Louise Robin, inherited the property.
Under the stewardship of the Robin sisters, Château Lafleur reached new heights of acclaim. They introduced modernization slowly and thoughtfully; their profound understanding of both tradition and innovation ensured that each vintage maintained the estate’s signature quality. The sisters managed the vineyard until 2001 when it passed into the hands of Jacques and Sylvie Guinaudeau, whose family had a long association with the estate.
Today, the Guinaudeau family persists in their meticulous care of Château Lafleur, maintaining its esteemed status in the world of oenology. The vineyard's unique terroir, characterized by its gravel and clay soils, combined with a commitment to low yields and rigorous selection, ensures that each bottle continues to reflect the exceptional quality that has defined Château Lafleur for over a century.
