Domaine Armand Rousseau

Domaine Armand Rousseau, a renowned wine producer based in Gevrey-Chambertin, Burgundy, France, has a rich history that spans over four generations. The domaine was established in the early 20th century by Armand Rousseau, who inherited vineyards in Gevrey-Chambertin from his family. Armand's marriage in 1909 allowed him to expand the vineyard holdings and construct a winery in the heart of the village, near the 13th-century church.

Armand Rousseau initially sold his wines in bulk to local negociants. However, he soon began bottling his most prestigious wines, including Charmes-Chambertin, Clos de la Roche, and the famed Chambertin, to cater to a clientele of restaurateurs and private individuals. This shift towards bottled wines was a significant step in the domaine's history, as it allowed Rousseau to showcase the unique qualities of his terroirs and establish a reputation for producing exceptional wines.

The domaine continued to grow under the leadership of Armand's son, Charles Rousseau, who took over after his father's death in 1959. Charles expanded the vineyard holdings to include several parcels of Chambertin Clos de Bèze, the Clos des Ruchottes in Monopole, and additional plots of Chambertin. He also focused on exporting the domaine's wines, establishing a strong presence in the United States, Europe, and Asia.

In 1982, Eric Rousseau joined the family business after completing his education and gaining experience in the wine industry. Eric introduced new viticultural practices, such as vendange verte (green harvest) and effeuillage (leaf removal), and shifted the domaine towards a more biological approach to winegrowing. Under Eric's leadership, the domaine has continued to produce wines that are highly regarded for their elegance, finesse, and expression of terroir.

In 2014, Eric's daughter, Cyrielle Rousseau, returned to the domaine after gaining experience abroad. She now works alongside her father, learning the family's winemaking traditions and contributing to the domaine's ongoing success.
