Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair is a distinguished wine estate located in the heart of the renowned Burgundy region in France. The domaine has a storied history that dates back to the period of the Napoleonic Wars. It was in 1815 that Louis Liger-Belair, a respected Napoleonic general, acquired the Château de Vosne-Romanée and its surrounding vineyards, embarking on a legacy of viticulture and winemaking that would span generations.

Throughout the 19th century, the estate flourished under the stewardship of the Liger-Belair family. By the early 20th century, the domaine’s wines were celebrated for their exceptional quality, contributing to the esteemed reputation of Burgundy wines on the global stage. However, in 1933, a significant portion of the vineyards was sold following the death of Count Henry Liger-Belair, a decision dictated by France’s inheritance laws.

Despite this substantial reduction in vineyard holdings, the family retained ownership of La Romanée, one of the most illustrious Grand Cru sites in Burgundy. This singular plot of land, measuring just under one hectare, is famed for producing wines of extraordinary elegance and complexity.

In 2000, Louis-Michel Liger-Belair, a descendant of the original founder, assumed control of the domaine. With a degree in engineering and experience in viticulture, he embarked on an ambitious program of revitalization, focusing on biodynamic farming practices and meticulous vinification techniques. These efforts quickly garnered critical acclaim, reaffirming the domaine's position in the upper echelons of Burgundy wine estates.

Today, Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair encompasses a collection of prized vineyards, including La Romanée, which remains the crown jewel. The estate’s wines are highly sought after by collectors and connoisseurs alike, celebrated for their remarkable depth, complexity, and expression of terroir.
