Bannenberg & Rowell
Bannenberg & Rowell, a prominent name in the realm of naval architecture and yacht design, traces its roots back to the mid-20th century. The story began with Jon Bannenberg, an Australian born in 1929, who initially pursued a career as a concert pianist before transitioning into the world of design. Bannenberg’s eye for aesthetics and innovation revolutionized yacht design, making his name synonymous with luxury and creativity.
In 1960, Jon Bannenberg founded his design studio in London. His approach was groundbreaking, veering away from the tradition-bound constraints of yacht interiors that had dominated the industry for decades. By infusing his designs with modernity and a relentless pursuit of elegance, he quickly garnered a prestigious clientele. His influential works include the iconic “Nabila” built in 1980 for Saudi businessman Adnan Khashoggi, which later became known as "Trump Princess" when acquired by Donald Trump.
Following Jon's passing in 2002, his son, Dickie Bannenberg, took the helm. Dickie had joined the firm in 1995 and worked closely with his father, ensuring a seamless continuation of the innovative spirit and high standards that defined the company’s legacy. Subsequently partnering with Simon Rowell, the firm was rebranded as Bannenberg & Rowell.
The firm's portfolio includes an array of notable projects, such as the “Octopus,” a 126-meter yacht built for Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, and the “Sarafsa,” a 82-meter yacht built for Saudi royalty. Bannenberg & Rowell are known for their versatility, handling both the exterior and interior design to produce cohesive, striking vessels.
