Sunseeker
Sunseeker International, a prominent British luxury motor yacht manufacturer, traces its origins to the early 1970s. The company was founded by Robert and John Braithwaite in 1969 under the name Poole Powerboats in Poole, Dorset. The Braithwaite brothers initially focused on importing and distributing boats from Scandinavia and the United States. However, they soon saw an opportunity to specialize in designing and building luxury yachts tailored to the burgeoning demand for high-end leisure.
Sunseeker's transformation began in the late 1970s when they collaborated with renowned powerboat designer Don Shead. This partnership led to the creation of the Offshore 28, a model that combined speed and luxury, laying the groundwork for Sunseeker's future success. The introduction of this vessel was pivotal, marking the company's foray into the luxury yacht market.
Throughout the 1980s, Sunseeker continued to innovate, leveraging advancements in technology and design. The release of the Tomahawk 37 in 1989 showcased the company's prowess in performance and style, garnering significant attention in the niche market. The 1990s saw further expansion, with the launch of the Manhattan range, which emphasized spacious interiors and elegant design. Sunseeker's reputation for quality and innovation flourished, leading to the creation of larger and more opulent yachts.
In 2001, the brand made headlines with the presentation of the Sunseeker Predator 108, enhancing its status in the superyacht segment. The company continued to push boundaries with the introduction of the 155 Yacht, its largest build to date, in 2014. This vessel exemplified Sunseeker’s ability to combine cutting-edge technology with sophisticated aesthetics.
