Frieze Masters
Frieze Masters, established in 2012, is an annual art fair that takes place in The Regent's Park, London. It is renowned for showcasing several thousand years of art history within a contemporary context, featuring over 130 leading modern and historical galleries from around the world. The fair presents a diverse range of artworks, from ancient era and Old Masters to the late 20th century, including antiquities, Asian art, ethnographic art, illuminated manuscripts, medieval art, modern and post-war art, Old Masters and 19th century art, photography, sculpture, and wunderkammer.
Frieze Masters provides a platform for discussions on the history of art and its continuing significance in contemporary practice through Frieze Masters Talks. The fair is organized by Frieze, which was founded in 1991 by Matthew Slotover and Amanda Sharp with the launch of frieze magazine, a leading international magazine of contemporary art and culture.
Frieze Masters Talks features acclaimed international artists in conversation with leading industry figures, exploring connections between historical art and contemporary practice. The fair also includes curated sections, such as "Stand Out", which challenges traditional hierarchies of media and re-examines artworks once dismissed as 'decorative', and "Focus", which celebrates fresh galleries and voices that are pioneering change in the global art scene.
