IFP Gotham Awards

The IFP Gotham Awards, presented by the Gotham Film & Media Institute (formerly Independent Filmmaker Project), are annual American film awards that honor independent films at a ceremony in New York City. Established in 1991, the awards were initially focused on showcasing and honoring films made primarily in the northeastern region of the United States. Over the years, the scope of the awards has expanded to include international films and those originating from Los Angeles, California.

The IFP Gotham Awards are the first honors of the film awards season, recognizing the filmmaking community and expanding the audience for independent films. The awards are a testament to the Institute's mission of fostering independent film and media creators, providing them with resources, and promoting original stories.

The Gotham Awards are selected by distinguished juries and presented in various categories, including Best Feature, Best Documentary, Best Screenplay, Breakthrough Series – Long Form and Short Form, and several tribute awards. These awards have recognized notable figures in the film industry, such as Bradley Cooper, Ben Affleck, George C. Wolfe, Michael Mann, and Greta Gerwig.

In addition to the film awards, the Gotham Film & Media Institute has announced the inaugural Gotham TV Awards, which will honor breakthrough comedy, drama, limited, and nonfiction series, as well as outstanding performances in these categories. This separate event, held in June, will focus solely on creators of episodic TV, limited series, and non-theatrical streaming movies, expanding the Institute's support for TV creators and upholding their tradition of discovering innovative voices and promoting original stories.

The IFP Gotham Awards and the Gotham TV Awards serve as a platform for recognizing and celebrating the achievements of independent film and television creators, while also providing sponsors with an incomparable setting for a meaningful presence at the first honors of the film awards season.
