CNMI Fashion Awards
The CNMI Fashion Awards, hosted by the Italian Fashion Chamber (Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana), is a prestigious event dedicated to recognizing and celebrating sustainable fashion. Established as a partnership with the United Nations Ethical Fashion Initiative, the Awards have become a cornerstone of Milan's autumnal Fashion Week, taking place at the world-renowned Teatro alla Scala.
The Awards were first introduced in 2018, with the objective of honoring individuals and fashion houses that have demonstrated a commitment to sustainability and a move towards a more eco-friendly future. The event is unique in its approach to sustainability, with even the 'red' carpet being made from recycled fishing nets taken out of the world's oceans.
The Awards recognize various aspects of sustainable fashion, including biodiversity, circular economy, climate action, craftsmanship, human rights, and environmental justice. The selection process involves an Advisory Board consisting of 25 national and international non-profit associations and organizations committed to these topics. The Jury includes esteemed individuals such as Andre Morlet, Carlo Capasa, Simone Cipriani, Roberta Annan, Teneshia Carr, Paola Deda, Kerry Kennedy, Federica Marchionni, Samata Pattinson, Michelangelo Pistoletto, and Teddy Quinlivan.
The Awards have recognized various brands and personalities for their commitment to sustainability. For instance, Kering won the Biodiversity and Water Award in 2023 for its Regenerative & Climate Fund for Nature. Gucci received the Ellen MacArthur Foundation Award for Circular Economy for its Circular Hub’s Denim Project. Manteco won the Climate Action Award for its wool-focused sustainable economy. Dolce&Gabbana received the Craft and Italian Artisanship Award for its sartorial craftsmanship and Grand Tour of Italy. Valentino took home the Education of Excellence Award for its nurturing talents initiative. Ahluwalia by Priya Ahluwalia received the Bicester Collection Award for Emerging Designers, and Donatella Versace was honored with the Humanitarian Award for Equity and Inclusivity.
The CNMI Fashion Awards event highlights the importance of building scalable collaborations, combining traditional fashion heritage with forward-thinking approaches, and fostering education and empowerment for fashion workers.
