Volta New York

Volta New York is an international art fair that debuted in Basel, Switzerland, in 2005, as a collaboration between dealers and friends. The aim was to provide a platform for international galleries beyond the young art fair Liste and the market heavyweight Art Basel. Volta New York, which has been held annually since 2008 during Armory Arts Week, is an extension of the original Basel Volta show.

Volta New York is known for its focus on solo projects by leading and emerging international artists, showcasing complementary, challenging, or competing ideas about contemporary art. The fair has featured over 40 exhibitors from 18 countries, with each booth holding a unique and international artistic dialogue. In 2023, new exhibitors included Tufenkian Fine Arts from California, CUT Art from Riga in Latvia, and Gallery Bhak from South Korea, alongside returning galleries such as Galerie Thomas Fuchs, Ethan Cohen Gallery, Charlie Smith London, and i le gallery.

The fair is led by Amanda Coulson, who served as Volta's Artistic Director until 2023, when Lee Cavaliere took over the role with a curatorial focus. Under Coulson's leadership, Volta aimed to promote galleries' exhibition styles "at home" while refocusing the fair-going experience back to its most fundamental point: the artists and their works.

Volta New York has been a beacon for creative discovery and social engagement, offering a platform for artists to present their works in an approachable way that appeals to both younger art-lovers and seasoned collectors alike. The fair's commitment to showcasing solo projects has allowed it to spotlight artists and their unique perspectives, making it a standout event during Armory Arts Week.
