Burning Man

Burning Man is an annual event that takes place in Black Rock City, a temporary city constructed in the Black Rock Desert of northwest Nevada. The event is renowned for its emphasis on community and art, culminating in the symbolic burning of a large wooden effigy known as "the Man" on the Saturday evening of the event.

The Burning Man Project, the non-profit organization behind the event, adheres to the values embodied in the Ten Principles, which include radical inclusion, gifting, decommodification, radical self-reliance, radical self-expression, communal effort, civic responsibility, leaving no trace, participation, and immediacy. These principles guide the creation of art, events, and local initiatives around the world, fostering a global ecosystem of artists, makers, and community organizers.

Burning Man is not merely a gathering of individuals but a collaborative endeavor that encourages participants to contribute to the community. This contribution can take various forms, such as food, water, art, or community building. The event emphasizes self-reliance, with participants expected to bring everything they need and take everything they brought when they leave, ensuring no trace is left behind.

The event has its roots in a beach bonfire party associated with the San Francisco Cacophony Society. Over time, it evolved to include art and performance elements, eventually becoming the immersive experience it is today.
