The Vanity Fair Oscar Party, established in 1994, has evolved into one of the most prestigious and sought-after events in Hollywood's social calendar. Initiated by Graydon Carter and Steve Tisch, the party was conceived as a successor to the exclusive yearly Oscar-viewing dinner and after-party hosted by the legendary literary-and-talent agent Irving "Swifty" Lazar since 1964.

Originally held at Mortons steak house on Melrose, the event has grown over the years, moving to the Sunset Tower Hotel in 2009 to accommodate a larger press line and offer guests panoramic views of the city. In the 2010s, the party was held in three different locations, including the Sunset Strip and the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills, where it currently takes place.

The party is also recognized for its philanthropic efforts, with proceeds from the event's auction benefiting the Film Foundation. This commitment to supporting the film industry and preserving its rich history adds an element of significance and purpose to the celebration.
