Epsom Derby Festival

The Epsom Derby Festival, held annually at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, England, is the stage for two of the most prestigious races in British horse racing: The Oaks Stakes and The Epsom Derby Stakes. The festival spans two days, with Ladies Day on the first day featuring The Oaks Stakes and Derby Day on the second day hosting the main event, The Epsom Derby Stakes.

The Epsom Derby Stakes, commonly referred to as The Derby, is a Group 1 flat horse race open to three-year-old thoroughbred colts and fillies. Established in 1780, it is run over a distance of one mile, four furlongs and 6 yards (2,420 metres), making it the longest of the five Classics. The race is known for its rich history, often being referred to as the "Blue Riband" of the turf, and is Britain's richest horse race, with a prize fund of £1.5 million in 2018.

The Oaks Stakes, first held in 1779, is a Group 1 race for three-year-old fillies, run over the same course and distance as The Derby. Alongside the QIPCO 1000 Guineas and the Ladbrokes St Leger, these three races make up the fillies' Triple Crown.
