Cowdray Gold Cup

The Cowdray Gold Cup, inaugurated in 1956, is Europe's premier high goal polo tournament and a significant event in the world of polo. Held at Cowdray Park, recognized globally as the Home of British Polo, the tournament takes place in an area of outstanding natural beauty within Viscount Cowdray's 16,500 acre estate in West Sussex.

Polo has been played at Cowdray for over a century, with the first competitive tournaments recorded in 1910. By the 1920s, a series of competitions with dedicated cups and trophies was established. However, the sport in the UK almost disappeared during the Second World War.

The Cowdray Gold Cup determines the British Open Polo Championship and is the world's premier polo tournament at the 22 goal (High Goal) level. It attracts all the international stars of the game, drawing in polo aficionados from around the world. The event is held on the famous 'Lawns' of Cowdray Park, providing an incomparable setting for the tournament.

The Cowdray Gold Cup tournament includes various events, such as a family polo day held on the opening Sunday, featuring high-goal polo and entertainment off the pitch. Additionally, the last eight teams compete to secure their place in the final stages of the British Open for the Cowdray Gold Cup.

The Gold Cup Final is a significant event, with the last two teams competing for victory in the British Open for the Cowdray Gold Cup. Gates open early, allowing spectators to enjoy the day's events.
