Loro Piana Giraglia

The Loro Piana Giraglia is a prestigious sailing event steeped in history and tradition, bringing together the world's finest sailors for a series of races in the Mediterranean. Organized by the Yacht Club Italiano in collaboration with the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez, the regatta has its origins in a Parisian bistro in 1952, where the idea was conceived by Beppe Croce, René Levainville, and Franco Gavagnin as a means to strengthen French-Italian relations post-World War II.

The first edition of the Giraglia Cup took place in 1953 with 22 boats participating. Over the years, the event has grown in stature and popularity, attracting hundreds of crews and yachts from around the world. In 1997, the regatta underwent a significant transformation with the arrival of a prominent sponsor, becoming the Rolex Giraglia Cup. In 2002, the Société Nautique joined the Yacht Club Italiano and Yacht Club de France as organizers, expanding registration to various categories of sailboats.

The Loro Piana Giraglia consists of inshore races in the picturesque bay of Saint-Tropez, followed by a grand offshore race spanning 241 nautical miles from Saint-Tropez to Genoa, via the enigmatic Giraglia island. This challenging course highlights the sporting and maritime attributes of French and Italian cultures, with prestigious yachts such as classic Swans, ultra-modern Wally class, and Maxis participating.

In 2024, Loro Piana became the title partner of the event, solidifying its commitment to the world's most prestigious sports events. Sharing values such as tradition, fair play, and love for nature, Loro Piana's involvement further enhances the prestige of this historic regatta.
