Billie Jean King Cup Final
The Billie Jean King Cup, formerly known as the Federation Cup and Fed Cup, was established in 1963 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the International Tennis Federation (ITF). It is currently the world's largest annual international team competition in women's sports, featuring 116 nations in 2020.
The tournament was rebranded in 2020 to honor Billie Jean King, a global icon known for her lifelong commitment to combating injustice, inequality, and discrimination in all forms. King's values and beliefs align with the tournament's ethos, which has evolved to become the largest team competition in women's sports and boasts the biggest annual prize fund in women's team sports, equivalent to that offered to men in the Davis Cup.
The Billie Jean King Cup Finals serve as the women's team world championships of tennis, attracting some of the best players from around the world. In a given year, 12 nations compete in the Finals, with the host nation securing automatic qualification. The remaining teams qualify through the Qualifiers, a series of home-and-away matches played as best-of-five matches (four singles and a doubles).
The Finals consist of three matches (two singles followed by doubles), while the Qualifiers and Play-offs are played as best-of-five matches (four singles followed by doubles) over two days. Group I-III ties are contested in a best-of-three matches format, with two singles followed by a doubles match.
