Andersen Genève Jumping Hours Black Jade Stone

In 2024, ANDERSEN Genève has once more created a 50-piece limited edition designed to delight its worldwide collectors. Share

This year, Andersen Genève presents an exceptional version of its acclaimed Jumping Hours watch, originally launched in 2020 to celebrate the brand’s 40th anniversary. Known for its minimalist elegance and dial-centric focus, the Jumping Hours complication holds significant importance for Andersen Genève. In 1995, Svend Andersen was first commissioned to create a watch featuring this display, combined with a minute repeater. This innovation led to numerous unique commissions and the creation of the “Jour & Nuit,” a design that utilized the Jumping Hours module to operate a double-ended ‘jumping’ 24-hour hand. This ingenious concept resulted in a series of watches for Cartier in 1998 and various well-known editions for Andersen Genève.

In recent years, Andersen Genève has elevated the artistry and beauty of the Jumping Hours complication, creating watches that emphasize traditional craftsmanship. These watches have garnered nominations at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) awards in the Artistic Crafts category in 2020, 2021, and 2023.

The latest interpretation of the Jumping Hours by Andersen Genève features a hand-crafted platinum case paired with a black jade stone dial. This unique combination creates a stunning visual effect. The dial is meticulously cut to a thickness of just 0.4mm, with the thinnest point being 0.15mm where the hour wheel is recessed. This precision craftsmanship ensures a flawless finish without breaking the delicate jade.

From afar, the dial appears as a deep, alluring black, creating a striking contrast with the minute’s hand, chapter ring, and brand logo in powdered pink gold. Upon closer inspection, the intricate veins and details of the jade stone become visible, showcasing the unique qualities of the material. This design highlights both the minimalistic elegance and the high craftsmanship of the Jumping Hours. The watch is powered by the Frédéric Piguet 11.50 movement, an exceptional Swiss calibre known for its ultra-slim dimensions. This makes it an ideal base for the in-house developed and assembled jumping hours mechanism by Andersen Genève. The movement features a two-barrel architecture, ensuring a long power reserve of up to 70 hours.

The back of the watch is equally enchanting, featuring a sapphire glass case-back that reveals the flawless hand-finishing of the movement. This includes meticulous chamfering around individual parts, Côtes de Genève decoration, and mirror-polished screw-heads, all executed by Andersen Genève artisans. The automatic movement is wound by an 18ct pink gold rotor decorated with a hand guilloche “grains d’orge” pattern.

Adding to its uniqueness, the movement is surrounded by a ring of 21ct BlueGold, created through a heat-treating process that combines 24ct gold with iron elements. This process, mastered solely by Andersen Genève, produces a radiant blue hue, with variations in colour ranging from light blue to purple and grey. Each ring is hand engraved with the number of the timepiece, “X/50”. The platinum Pt950 case features satin-brushed flanks and a mirror-polished bezel, complemented by a pink gold crown. The curving lugs, made separately in traditional style and welded to the case, enhance the watch’s classic aesthetic. The watch is water-resistant up to 30 meters, has a case diameter of 38.00 mm, and a case height of 9.22 mm.

The dial is made of jade stone with a hand-applied black lacquer coating. The hour is indicated through a window at 12 o’clock, and the minutes are displayed by a pink gold hand on a sub-dial at 6 o’clock. The railway-style chapter ring and Andersen Genève logo above the hour window are printed in pink gold. The watch comes with a hand-stitched black suede strap featuring a platinum buckle. This limited edition piece is restricted to just 50 pieces, making it a highly coveted collector’s item.
