Audemars Piguet has expanded its prestigious Code 11.59 collection with a groundbreaking new offering – the Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon in an elegant 38mm case. This marks the first time the Le Brassus-based manufacturer has presented this sophisticated complication in this more versatile diameter, catering to collectors who prefer a more restrained wrist presence without compromising on horological complexity.

The timepiece showcases Audemars Piguet’s mastery of materials through its 18-carat sand gold case, a distinctive alloy that combines gold with copper and palladium. This proprietary metal creates a chameleon-like effect, shifting between white and pink gold hues depending on lighting conditions. The case is meticulously set with 235 brilliant-cut diamonds, each precisely selected and cut to complement the Code 11.59’s complex geometry, creating a harmonious integration between technical case construction and gem-setting artistry.

At just 9.6mm in height, the watch maintains remarkable slimness despite housing the ultra-thin Calibre 2968 movement. First introduced in 2022 for Royal Oak models, this movement (also known as RD#3) measures a mere 3.4mm thick. The self-winding mechanism features a flying tourbillon supported only from beneath, offering an unobstructed view of the rotating cage through an aperture at 6 o’clock.

The movement incorporates an innovative peripheral escapement that drives the tourbillon cage, enhancing both energy distribution and precision. Through the sapphire caseback, the rhodium-toned openworked bridges reveal a symmetrical architecture that exemplifies contemporary haute horlogerie finishing, complemented by a 22-carat pink gold oscillating weight with sand gold toning. The caliber operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour and offers a 50-hour power reserve.

Equally impressive is the dial, created in collaboration with Swiss guilloché artisan Yann Von Kaenel. The sand gold-toned surface, achieved through Physical Vapour Deposition, features an intricate pattern of concentric circles radiating from the center, punctuated by hundreds of tiny perforations that add remarkable depth and dimension. The 18-carat sand gold hour markers and luminous-coated hands provide perfect legibility against this artistic backdrop.

The timepiece is fitted with a beige alligator strap featuring large square scales, secured by an 18-carat sand gold folding clasp adorned with 42 brilliant-cut diamonds. This limited edition will be available exclusively through Audemars Piguet boutiques worldwide.
