H. Moser & Cie. Streamliner Cylindrical Tourbillon Skeleton Alpine Limited Edition
This timepiece, a collaboration with Alpine Motorsports, features a skeletonized design showcasing precision engineering with a one-minute flying tourbillon and a cylindrical hairspring. ShareH. Moser & Cie. recently introduced the Streamliner Cylindrical Tourbillon Skeleton Alpine Limited Edition—marking a first-of-its-kind collaboration with Alpine Motorsports. This timepiece reflects a culmination of the two brands, designed with the aesthetics favoured by Alpine’s Formula 1 driver and endurance racing team in mind. It features meticulously engineered components visible from every perspective, striking aesthetics, a pop of colour, and a rubber strap for ultimate durability and comfort. The outcome is visually stunning—a three-dimensional sculptural watch that catches the eye and serves as practical for daily wear due to its balanced dimensions and 12 ATM water resistance.
For this partnership, H. Moser & Cie. selected its premier Streamliner collection, aptly named and designed with curves reminiscent of high-speed trains. For this special edition, the company crafted a fully skeletonized model that allows the intricate movements to be appreciated from all angles. The Streamliner Cylindrical Tourbillon Skeleton Alpine celebrates transparency and spatial design, featuring a one-minute flying tourbillon with a cylindrical hairspring at the 6 o’clock position, a hallmark of H. Moser & Cie.’s sister company, Precision Engineering AG.
The cylindrical hairspring, an innovation from the 18th century, is notable for its perpendicular arrangement around the balance spindle’s upper stem, akin to its use in historical marine chronometers. This design promotes concentric development, which enhances isochronism by reducing pivot friction when paired with a tourbillon. Today, producing a cylindrical hairspring is a rare art, requiring significant expertise and labour, as it is entirely handcrafted and takes substantially longer to produce compared to traditional hairsprings.
The watch’s face at 12 o’clock is enhanced by a small, dome-shaped translucent dial that arcs with the sapphire crystal. It is presented in a vibrant blue, a signature of both H. Moser & Cie. and Alpine Motorsports, achieved using synthetic spinel, a material noted for its intense colour and challenging machining requirements. It eschews a visible logo for a minimalistic appearance, featuring only a discreet engraving of the brand names on the back, emphasizing its exclusivity.
The indices are treated with Super-Luminova®, and the hour and minute hands are capped with Globolight inserts, ensuring the watch is readable even in low-light conditions. The strap is crafted from blue moulded rubber designed to mimic the texture of a fabric strap, blending comfort with refined style.
The movement—the automatic calibre HMC 811—is skeletonized across both the front and back, revealing a large open-worked gold rotor that oscillates visibly. This design highlights the movement’s delicate aesthetics and the dynamic appearance of the flying tourbillon under the sapphire crystal.
The Streamliner Cylindrical Tourbillon Skeleton Alpine Limited Edition combines spectacular visuals with practicality, making it suitable for both athletic activities and formal occasions thanks to its compact design and water resistance up to 12 ATM.
