Hermès, founded in 1837 in Paris, began as a purveyor of high-quality equestrian equipment. Over the years, the brand expanded its offerings to include a diverse range of luxury products, from iconic handbags and fine clothing to fragrances and watches. The watch collection of Hermès holds a significant place in the brand’s legacy, reflecting its dedication to exceptional craftsmanship, meticulous attention to detail, and use of superior materials. Known for designs that merge classic elegance with contemporary creativity, Hermès watches feature advanced mechanical movements crafted with precision. Among its most distinguished collections is the “Arceau” collection, originally created by Henri d’Origny in 1978, showcasing his unique inspiration from the elegant curve of a stirrup.

The latest addition to this collection is the Hermès Arceau Robe Légère which features a 38mm polished white gold case set with 71 brilliant-cut diamonds around the bezel, which adds an understated yet luxurious touch. Protecting both the intricate dial and the caseback is anti-reflective sapphire crystal, enhancing durability and ensuring optimal legibility. The watch includes an onion-shaped crown adorned with a diamond and offers water resistance up to 30 metres, combining elegance with functionality.

The dial of the Arceau Robe Légère is a visual masterpiece inspired by the “Robe Légère” silk scarf design by Théo de Gueltzl. The focal point of the dial is a striking depiction of a rearing horse, realised through the complex technique of paillonné enamelling. This method involves the precise placement of delicate silver leaf elements shaped into flowers and leaves onto a dark blue enamel base. Each element is meticulously placed by hand, and successive layers of translucent enamel seal them in, with multiple firings in the kiln to achieve a radiant depth and shimmering effect. The resulting dial is captivating, exuding a sense of movement and elegance that is characteristic of Hermès.

Time is indicated by finely crafted hour and minute hands positioned at the centre of the dial, surrounded by the brand’s signature “Hermès” inscription on the right. The hands, along with the intricate details of the dial, are designed to reflect and play with light, adding to the watch’s aesthetic appeal.

Hermès Arceau Robe Légère

Powering the Arceau Robe Légère is the Hermès H1912 automatic calibre. This Swiss-made movement operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and is equipped with 28 jewels, ensuring reliable and precise timekeeping. The H1912 movement offers a power reserve of up to 50 hours and is beautifully finished, with its bridges and rotor adorned with the signature ‘H’ motif that showcases Hermès’ commitment to refined design and technical excellence.

Completing the luxurious design of the Arceau Robe Légère is a matt abysse blue Hermès alligator strap, which perfectly complements the rich blue tones of the dial. The strap is secured with a folding clasp, enhancing comfort and providing a seamless fit. With only 25 pieces available, the Arceau Robe Légère is a true collector’s item, celebrating the brand’s long-standing tradition of merging artistic inspiration with the art of watchmaking.
