Louis Vuitton's Tambour Taiko Spin Time collection introduces six models with rotating hour block mechanisms, limited to 500 pieces. Share

Louis Vuitton continues its journey into the world of high horology with the introduction of six new models in its Spin Time collection at LVMH Watch Week 2025. These watches, named the Louis Vuitton Tambour Taiko Spin Time, build on the brand’s recent efforts to establish itself as a serious contender in luxury watchmaking. Following the debut of the revamped Tambour base collection in 2023 and the redesigned Escale line in 2024, this launch reinforces Louis Vuitton’s ambition to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the industry’s finest.

The Spin Time concept, featuring rotating blocks that indicate the current hour, isn’t a fresh invention. It was first patented by Louis Vuitton’s watchmaking partner, La Fabrique du Temps, in 2009, prior to the workshop’s acquisition by Louis Vuitton in 2011. Over the years, this mechanism has been explored through various models, including the Spin Time GMT and a tourbillon variant. The latest collection, however, represents a refinement of the design, aligning it with Louis Vuitton’s high-end aspirations. The six new models are divided into two groups: the Louis Vuitton Tambour Taiko Spin Time and the Louis Vuitton Tambour Taiko Spin Time Air.

Louis Vuitton Tambour Taiko Spin Time W9WG62

The standard Louis Vuitton Tambour Taiko Spin Time features a solid Dolphin grey dial with a sunray finish at the center. The polished 18k white gold hands and markers provide a clean, elegant look. Measuring 39.5mm in diameter and 12.15mm thick, this model is designed for versatility and refinement. The time-only watch is paired with a matching Dolphin grey rubber strap and an 18k white gold pin buckle. Rated for 100m water resistance, this watch balances functionality with sophistication.

Louis Vuitton Tambour Taiko Spin Time W9WG52 (Gem-Set)

For those seeking more opulence, the gem-set version elevates the design with 68 baguette-cut diamonds adorning the bezel and lugs. The solid dial is crafted from hawk’s eye stone, offering a striking visual effect, while diamond-set hour markers complete the luxurious aesthetic. This model also features a Dolphin grey rubber strap, but with a diamond-encrusted pin buckle. Despite its extravagant design, it maintains the same 39.5mm diameter and 100m water resistance as the standard version.

Louis Vuitton Tambour Taiko Spin Time Air W9WG41

The first of the Spin Time Air models introduces an open-dial design where the hour blocks appear to float in midair. With a larger case size of 42.5mm and a thickness of 12.45mm, this model offers a bolder wrist presence. The hour blocks, crafted from 18k white gold, are suspended around the perimeter, while the beige calf leather strap adds a touch of softness. Rated to 50m water resistance, this time-only watch is perfect for those who appreciate modern, airy designs.

Louis Vuitton Tambour Taiko Spin Time Air W9WG31 (Gem-Set)

Taking the Spin Time Air concept to a new level, this gem-set model is a showcase of artistry. The case is encrusted with 909 brilliant-cut pavé diamonds, while the hawk’s eye dial and hour blocks are decorated with 118 additional diamonds. The open-dial design highlights the intricate craftsmanship, and the beige calf leather strap ensures comfort while complementing the opulent aesthetic. Like its counterpart, it is rated for 50m water resistance and measures 42.5mm in diameter.

Louis Vuitton Tambour Taiko Spin Time Air Antipode W9WG21

The Antipode model introduces a world-time complication, replacing the rotating hour blocks with city blocks. Each block displays two cities, 12 hours apart, allowing for easy reference to different time zones. A rotating world map disc, complete with a yellow arrow, helps indicate local time. The cities are colour-coded to distinguish AM from PM, with the blocks rotating to reflect the change. This unique timepiece combines functionality with artistic flair, making it a standout in the collection.

Louis Vuitton Tambour Taiko Spin Time Flying Tourbillon W9WG11

The Flying Tourbillon model is the crown jewel of the collection. Retaining the rotating hour blocks, it features a central flying one-minute tourbillon set above a mirrored plate. The mirrored surface showcases the intricate mechanism from every angle, while a floating minute hand traces the edge of the dial. With its innovative design and technical complexity, this watch is a masterpiece of modern horology. Measuring 42.5mm in diameter, it offers a bold presence on the wrist.

While the movements are visible only in the Air models, all six watches share the same level of craftsmanship. The time-only watches use the LFT ST13.01 caliber, while the Antipode and Flying Tourbillon models feature the LFT ST12.01 and LFT ST05.01 calibers, respectively. Each movement is equipped with an 18K pink gold rotor and provides a 45-hour power reserve at a frequency of 28,800 vph. With prices ranging from $72,500 to $172,000, this collection caters to collectors seeking innovation and exclusivity. Limited to 500 pieces across all models, the Tambour Taiko Spin Time watches are an ode to Louis Vuitton’s evolution into a true player in the luxury watch industry.
