MB&F LM Perpetual EVO Silicon Valley
MB&F’s new Legacy Machine Perpetual EVO in 18K rose gold with an ocean blue dial-plate, limited to 18 pieces, combines cutting-edge mechanics with active-lifestyle durability. ShareMB&F has introduced the latest addition to its EVO collection: the Legacy Machine Perpetual EVO in 18K rose gold with an ocean blue dial-plate. The EVO series debuted in 2020 with three limited editions crafted from zirconium, followed by a titanium edition featuring a green CVD dial-plate. This version was later replaced by an ice blue dial-plate in 2024. Most recently, MB&F marked the opening of their Silicon Valley LAB in partnership with Stephen Silver by unveiling this new 18-piece watch. Each model in the EVO line comes with an integrated rubber strap, ensuring unparalleled comfort and wearability.
Central to the EVO’s appeal is its groundbreaking “FlexRing,” a monobloc shock-absorbing system that protects the intricate mechanics of the watch. This feature makes the LM Perpetual EVO one of the brand’s most robust creations. Inside beats the LM Perpetual Engine, conceived by Stephen McDonnell, a perpetual calendar reimagined through an entirely new approach. The traditional construction has been replaced with a mechanical processor, ensuring unmatched precision and reliability.
Since its introduction in 2015, the Legacy Machine Perpetual has represented the pinnacle of MB&F’s craftsmanship, combining tradition with cutting-edge technology. While the EVO case maintains the original 44mm diameter, its no-bezel construction sets it apart. By fusing the domed sapphire crystal directly to the case, MB&F has achieved a design that maximizes visibility, offering a seamless view of the engine’s components and the iconic hovering balance wheel. This design demanded innovative solutions, such as re-engineering the sapphire crystal to balance structural strength with a reduced height-to-diameter ratio. The crystal is bonded to the case using advanced thermal techniques, underscoring MB&F’s meticulous attention to detail.
The calendar adjustment pushers have also evolved. Once circular, they are now oblong and double-sprung, making adjustments smoother and more comfortable. The LM Perpetual EVO’s functionality is further enhanced by an 80-meter water resistance rating, supported by a screw-down crown. The crown includes a débrayage mechanism, disengaging the winding stem when tightened to prevent over-winding the mainspring barrel—a small but critical refinement that reflects the brand’s dedication to precision.
The perpetual calendar mechanism, a hallmark of traditional watchmaking, has been entirely reimagined by Stephen McDonnell for the LM Perpetual. Instead of relying on the conventional levers and springs that can be prone to errors, this design employs a system of superimposed disks that act as a mechanical processor.
Starting from a base of 28 days, the processor adds the necessary days for each month, ensuring perfect accuracy. This approach eliminates the risk of incorrect date jumps and includes a safety feature that disconnects the quickset pushers during date transitions. Even if the pushers are accidentally pressed at an inopportune moment, the movement remains protected from damage.
The MB&F LM Perpetual EVO Silicon Valley Edition is a limited edition of just 18 pieces and is available exclusively through MB&F’s retail partner Stephen Silver at the soon-to-open MB&F Lab at Menlo Park, in Silicon Valley.
