Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Ultra Light “Mondo”
Omega has introduced a new Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M Titanium Ultra-Light watch, designed in a blue-and-yellow colour scheme to honor Olympic pole vaulter Armand Duplantis. ShareKnown for its precision engineering and storied history, Omega recently captured the spotlight at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games with an exceptional release. The latest iteration of the Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M Titanium Ultra-Light—designed with athleticism, function and unparalleled attention to detail—has made its debut in a striking new colourway that pays homage to the world’s foremost pole vaulter, Armand ‘Mondo’ Duplantis. This new Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M Titanium Ultra-Light was seen on the wrist of Duplantis as he vaulted to a new Olympic record of 6.25 meters, a moment that secured him another gold medal.
The Seamaster Aqua Terra is a marvel of modern engineering. Its case, bezel, caseback, and crown are all constructed from Gamma Titanium, a material that is both lighter and harder than the more commonly used Grade 5 Titanium. This choice of material is crucial, as it significantly reduces the overall weight of the watch to just 55 grams. This reduction in weight makes it ideal for athletes like Duplantis, who require a timepiece that is as unobtrusive as it is functional.
The watch’s design further amplifies its connection to Duplantis and his Swedish heritage. The dial, crafted from anodized titanium, features horizontal grooves that add texture and depth. The blue colour, combined with subtle accents of yellow, mirrors the colours of the Swedish flag. The cylindrical central second’s hand, finished in yellow with a white tip, is a nod to the pole vault, the very instrument that has brought Duplantis global acclaim. The blackened markers and hands, alongside the white printed details, provide a striking contrast against the vibrant blue, ensuring legibility and aesthetic appeal.
Underneath the sapphire crystal case back lies the heart of the watch, the Calibre 8928 Ti movement. This manually wound movement is made from titanium to maintain the watch’s lightweight profile. Operating at a frequency of 25,200 vibrations per hour, the movement boasts a power reserve of 72 hours, supported by twin barrels. The finishing of the movement’s plates and bridges is consistent with the exterior’s sandblasted aesthetic, further enhancing the cohesive design language of the watch. The inclusion of Master Chronometer certification ensures that the watch meets the highest standards of performance and accuracy.
The watch is completed with a yellow nylon fabric strap, accented by blue rubber end-links. This choice of material complements the watch’s colour scheme and adds to its overall durability and comfort. The strap is both a visual and functional extension of the watch’s tribute to Duplantis and Sweden, making it a fitting companion for a watch designed to withstand the rigours of both elite sports and everyday wear.
