Richard Mille has once again pushed the boundaries of high-end watchmaking with the release of its RM 07-02 Sapphire Crystal Collection. This bold lineup features four new models in vivid lime green, lilac, and fuchsia sapphire crystal cases, showcasing the brand’s mastery of both advanced engineering and artistic design.
Known for pioneering sapphire crystal in watchmaking, Richard Mille first introduced this ultra-durable material for its cases in 2012. Sapphire crystal, a synthetic form of aluminium oxide, is one of the hardest materials in existence, second only to diamond. Machining a single case requires diamond-tipped tools, hundreds of hours of work, and a margin of error so slim that a minor mistake can render the entire piece unusable. Coloured sapphire crystal takes this precision to another level, requiring extensive effort to achieve uniform hues and adding significantly to production times.
The RM 07-02 models are defined by their vibrant coloured cases and intricate dial designs. The new lilac variant is a standout addition, while all four models feature gemstone accents arranged in a chevron pattern. The watches combine diamonds, blue and yellow sapphires, and stones such as spessartite, chrysoprase, tsavorite, and malachite. The result is a striking visual that highlights the brand’s attention to detail and dedication to craftsmanship.
Beneath the dazzling exterior is the CRMA5 automatic movement, a skeletonised design equipped with a variable-geometry rotor. This mechanism allows the watch to adapt its winding efficiency to the activity level of the wearer through the adjustment of two small weights. With a 50-hour power reserve, the movement features baseplates and bridges made from 18-karat red or white gold, each hand-finished with microblasting and chamfering. Even the oscillating weight is set with diamonds, blending functionality and luxury.
