Roger Dubuis Excalibur Monotourbillon Blue Hour
Roger Dubuis unveils the Excalibur Monotourbillon Blue Hour, featuring a 42mm pink gold case, RD512SQ calibre, and a bezel set with a gradient of blue sapphires and white diamonds. ShareAs the sky fades to twilight, Roger Dubuis captures the magic of the elusive blue hour, transforming it into a masterpiece of horological art. Introducing the Excalibur Monotourbillon Blue Hour—a timepiece where the mystery of dusk meets the precision of cutting-edge watchmaking, blending the allure of twilight with the genius of tourbillon mechanics. The result is a sophisticated watch that stood out in the world of haute horlogerie when unveiled at Watches and Wonders Shanghai 2024.
The Calibre RD512SQ, which powers the Excalibur Monotourbillon Blue Hour, exemplifies Roger Dubuis’ dedication to tourbillon craftsmanship. This calibre is distinguished by several signature features that set it apart. The most striking element is the large tourbillon cage. This design choice allows for the inclusion of a high-inertia balance wheel, which enhances the timepiece’s resistance to daily wear.
Within this cage lies a Flying tourbillon, a hallmark of all Roger Dubuis tourbillons. The Flying tourbillon, composed of 63 components, features a lower cage made of lightweight titanium and an upper cage inspired by the Celtic Cross. The design is only mounted on one side, with no supporting bridge on top, offering an unobstructed view of the intricate mechanics. This design choice, while challenging to execute, results in a visually stunning timepiece.
Purity is another key aspect of Roger Dubuis’ approach to tourbillon design. The Excalibur Monotourbillon Blue Hour showcases the tourbillon within a skeletonised movement, complete with the Maison’s signature astral motif. The use of contrasting materials within the Calibre RD512SQ further enhances its visual appeal. The upper cage of the tourbillon is crafted from silvery cobalt chrome, while the flange and astral motif are made from pink gold. The Calibre RD512SQ offers a 72-hour power reserve and is certified with the Poinçon de Genève hallmark. This certification guarantees the calibre’s provenance, reliability and exceptional quality of craftsmanship, with 16 different types of hand-finishing applied to every component.
Following the introduction of the Excalibur Sunrise Double Tourbillon earlier this year, Roger Dubuis now turns its attention to the evening with the Excalibur Monotourbillon Blue Hour. While the Sunrise Double Tourbillon captured the warm glow of morning, this new timepiece takes on the deeper tones of twilight, featuring a gradient of white diamonds and blue sapphires that evoke the “blue hour.”
The bezel of the 42 mm 18K pink gold case is adorned with 60 carefully selected baguette-cut gemstones, arranged in a gradient from light to dark. The 10 white diamonds and 50 blue sapphires create a mesmerising effect, reminiscent of the starlit sky during the blue hour. The Excalibur Monotourbillon Blue Hour is paired with a white calf leather strap, equipped with a Quick Release System for easy versatility. Limited to 28 pieces, it joins a collection of four new tourbillons from Roger Dubuis, including The Orbis In Machina Central Monotourbillon, the Excalibur Double Tourbillon Cobalt Chrome, and the Excalibur Monotourbillon White Gold.
