Roger Dubuis Excalibur Monotourbillon White Gold
Roger Dubuis unveils the Excalibur Monotourbillon White Gold, a limited edition timepiece featuring a skeletonized flying tourbillon and Poinçon de Genève certification. ShareSince launching its first tourbillon in 2003, Roger Dubuis has continually blended traditional tourbillon craftsmanship with modern design. This time, the intricate mechanics are housed in one of the most precious materials. Roger Dubuis’ exploration of the tourbillon began with its founder, a Master Watchmaker, who saw the complication beyond a technical challenge and used it as an opportunity for aesthetic innovation. To Mr. Roger Dubuis, the compact nature of the mechanism created space for a watchmaker to leave a unique mark.
This philosophy has guided the Maison’s tourbillon designs for over 20 years. From the first flying Monotourbillon in 2003 to the full range launched in 2024, Roger Dubuis has consistently showcased the tourbillon in various forms, combining artistry with innovation. The Calibre RD512SQ, which powers the Excalibur Monotourbillon White Gold, embodies Roger Dubuis’ commitment to excellence. The Maison challenges itself by focusing solely on Flying Tourbillons. Unlike traditional tourbillons, the Flying Tourbillon is mounted on just one side, without a supporting bridge on top. This design is visually appealing but requires precise craftsmanship to ensure stability.
The large size of the Roger Dubuis tourbillon cage reflects the brand’s distinctive style, allowing for a high-inertia balance wheel that enhances the timepiece’s durability in daily wear. The tourbillon’s placement at 7 o’clock is another signature feature of Roger Dubuis, adding to its unique identity. The tourbillon cage is crafted from innovative materials: titanium for the lower cage, offering lightweight and anti-magnetic properties, and Cobalt Chrome for the upper cage, known for its non-magnetic qualities. The upper cage, with its mirror polish and Celtic cross design, symbolizes strength and unity.
The skeletonized movement, a hallmark of Roger Dubuis since 2009, highlights Maison’s philosophy of using skeletonization as the foundation of design. This approach ensures that even highly complex movements, like the tourbillon, maintain a sense of lightness and purity. Achieving both beauty and performance is a hallmark of Roger Dubuis. The Poinçon de Genève certification guarantees the provenance, reliability, and exceptional aesthetics of the timepiece.
For Mr. Roger Dubuis, hand-finishing was essential to preserving the finest watchmaking traditions. This dedication led the Maison to obtain the Poinçon de Genève mark in 1999. Today, the Calibre RD512SQ features 16 different types of hand-finishing, ensuring that every visible component is meticulously crafted.
The new Monotourbillon exemplifies purity through its all-white design. The 42mm 18K white gold case, a first for a Roger Dubuis Monotourbillon, showcases the sharp lines, distinctive notches, and precise symmetry that define the Excalibur line. These design elements are further enhanced by the brilliance of white gold. The timepiece is adorned with 60 round-cut diamonds, carefully selected and placed around the bezel, adding a touch of opulence and prestige.
Complementing the watch’s craftsmanship, the white calf-skin leather strap is equipped with a Quick Release System, offering versatility and comfort. Limited to 88 pieces, honouring Mr Roger Dubuis’ favoured number 8, the Excalibur White Gold Monotourbillon strikes a perfect balance between minimalist design and bold innovation. Framed in luxurious white gold, it exemplifies the Swiss Maison’s distinctive approach to watchmaking.
This timepiece is featured at Watches and Wonders Shanghai 2024, alongside three other new tourbillons from Roger Dubuis: The Excalibur Monotourbillon Blue Hour, the Excalibur Double Tourbillon Cobalt Chrome, and the Orbis in Machina Central Monotourbillon.
