In the exclusive realm of high-end watchmaking, Roger Dubuis made a distinctively impressive impact at the Watches & Wonders Geneva 2024 event. This year, the esteemed Maison was prominently featured, and its new release—the Excalibur Titanium Monotourbillon—carved out its own niche. Born from the renowned expertise in tourbillon craftsmanship at the Maison, it serves as a minimalist yet striking testament to the belief that simplicity can achieve purity.

The Calibre RD512SQ within this watch highlights the distinctive traits of Roger Dubuis, starting with the unique placement of the Monotourbillon at 7 o’clock, which is a signature element of the Maison’s design, meticulously assembled by its skilled watchmakers. This model features a flying tourbillon mechanism, comprised of 63 components with a lower cage made from lightweight titanium and an upper bridge that takes inspiration from the Celtic Cross. The construction, which is supported on only one side and lacks a top bridge, poses a notable challenge in terms of stability but enhances the visual appeal of the tourbillon.

What stands out most, however, is the calibre’s overall purity. The Monotourbillon is set within a skeletonized environment adorned with an astral motif, melding exceptional functionality with a clean aesthetic. This design not only challenges the norms but also captivates the onlooker with its elegant simplicity and sophistication. Complemented by a 72-hour power reserve, the timepiece also boasts the Poinçon de Genève hallmark, which certifies its origin, reliability, and high quality of craftsmanship, with each component hand-finished to include 16 different exquisite decorative techniques.

The use of Grade 5 Titanium is critical to the “go anywhere” ethos of this design. This softer metal is challenging for watchmakers to refine, particularly in achieving the distinctive shapes and expressive details of Roger Dubuis’ cases and notched bezels. Despite these difficulties, the effort is justified by the material’s benefits, including being nearly twice as light as stainless steel, which contributes to an excellent strength-to-weight ratio. This ensures both immediate comfort on the wrist and the durability needed to withstand daily challenges. Its high corrosion resistance and anti-magnetic properties further equip the wearer for any modern adventure without constraints.

The Excalibur Titanium Monotourbillon is versatile enough for both formal business meetings and casual leisure escapes. It is distinguished by its premium matte metallic finish, contrasting shiny polished bevels on the bracelet, and a darker grey treatment of the iconic Roger Dubuis star. The watch’s fully metallic bracelet, featuring three rows that epitomize the Roger Dubuis style, ensures comfort with expertly shortened links that enhance fit and movement on the wrist. The integrated bracelet connects seamlessly with the buckle, creating a continuous look, enhanced by a Quick Release System for easy adaptability. Additionally, the hypoallergenic nature of Grade 5 titanium makes it skin-friendly, and ideal for prolonged wear.

As only the second Roger Dubuis timepiece to be crafted in titanium, the Excalibur Titanium Monotourbillon stands out with the inclusion of a prestigious tourbillon, making it truly unique. This sporty, elegant, and ergonomically designed watch is limited to just 28 pieces, reflecting the distinctive character of its wearers and perfect for those who cherish life’s most rewarding moments.
